Polar Bears are the largest member of the bear family and inhabit the sea ice and tundra in the northern hemisphere. They are listed as vulnerable with global climate change being their biggest threat. Polar bears are apex predators and are carnivores with their preferred food being the ringed seal.

As the cub was almost completely eaten, it's assumed that the bear ate the cub in an attempt to curb its hunger. Polar bears congregate along the shores in small geographic area; they are hungry from the previous summer season and are waiting for the sea ice to form, so they can hunt their favoured food source, the ringed seal.

The American Black Bear (Ursus americanus) is North America's smallest and most common species of bear. Black bears are omnivores, with their diets varying greatly depending on the season. The Brown Bear (Ursus arctos) is a large bear distributed across much of northern Eurasia and North America. There are several recognized subspecies within the brown bear species. In North America, two types are generally recognized, the Coastal Brown Bear and the inland Grizzly Bear

Spirit Bears (Ursus americanus kermodei) also known as the Kermode Bear inhabit the temperate forests of British Columbia in Canada where they feed upon salmon swimming upstream to spawn. The Spirit Bear is threatened with extinction mainly due to habitat destruction

Critically endangered from habitat loss and poaching, black rhinos are listed in the IUCN Red List

Tasmania Devils (Sarcophilus harrisii) are endemic to Tasmania Australia. They are listed on the IUCN Red List as endangered due to the spread of Facial Tumour Disease.

Pinipeds are a diverse family of marine mammals which include the fur seals, sea lions and elephant seals.

Small mammals are animals under 4 kilograms. Examples are martens, echidnas, snow hares and arctic foxes

Some of the most maligned animals in the US and Eurpoe are the coyote (Canis latrans) and wolf (Canis lupus)

Hoofed mammals

Wombats are medium sized robust animals endemic to Australia. They feed on roots and leaves and live in burrows. Tasmania is one of the best locations to observe wild wombats

Macropods are endemic to Australia and include a variety of kangaroos and wallabies. Whilst some of considered common such as the Eastern Grey Kangaroos others are threatened such as the Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby

The spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta) is one of two Hyenas found in Kenya (the other being the shy, purely nocturnal Striped Hyena). Social animals with high intelligence, hyenas form hunting packs and frequently clash with lions over food and territory. Spotted hyenas derive the majority of their nourishment by hunting medium sized ungulates
